An embolism is a blood clot that travels through the veins and causes a blockage somewhere else in the venous system. The lungs are the most likely destination of\u00a0blood clots\u00a0caused by\u00a0DVT, so if this happens, the resulting condition is called a\u00a0pulmonary embolism\u00a0(PE). It is dangerous because a blockage to one or more of the pulmonary arteries can be fatal.<\/p>\n

Take the medications and blood thinners that have been prescribed to you, wear compression stockings, and follow all recommendations as to diet and exercise.
